Some great photography apps

Sync for facebook is an app i have been using for a little while and have found it pretty useful on my blackberry playbook. The app can access your facebook account and download pictures to your playbook.  I find it very useful to retrieve a group of pictures from my facebook account.  it's a pretty simple straight foward app and has helped me to bring photos into another app i have been using latley to crop and alter photos.  uber iris is a great app that can alter photos! It will let you take or alter existing photos on you blackberry playbook!   The app itself cost 2.99 but i have used it a few times and have enjoyed it.  I have included some examples below

If you enjoy image editing or taking photos with your playbook this is the app for you!  It also allows for direct posting to facebook and twitter!  I think it is a great native blackberry app!  So if you have 2.99 and love photography head over to app world and check it out! the third app i have been using and having a really good time with is called scrapbook! if you hqve not seen this app yet i consider it a must have.  You can add fun captions and other decorations to your photos.  It allows multiple photos on one page and is a pretty cool app.  I have added some examples below.

Head over to app world and check it out!

Showing some love to existing native apps

All this time I have been reviewing apps that have been new to app world.  I think it is time I showed some love to a paid app and game that I use daily!  First to start with the fun then we can get down to business.

One of my favorite and challenging games I have come across in BlackBerry app world is cut the rope. I have played the game for countless hours and feel it was well with the 2.99 price tag.  For those who have not played it the object is to feed the frog a piece of candy while also collecting the stars located around the board .  There is a piece of candy attached to one or multiple ropes and you have to find a way to collect the stars and still get the candy to the frog.  It is very entertaining and a lot of fun to figure out how to make this happen!  I suggest if you don't have it you go to app world and download it.

On the business side of things splashtop remote desktop is a daily use app.  I am a draftsman during the day and a dj by night and I have been able to utilize this app for both as well as streaming movies and music to my playbook!  When out in the field on a construction site I can access all my files on my desktop as well as use autocad from my playbook thru the blackberry bridge!  As well as when in a bar or club I can log on to the wifi and dj across the room.  While the app does take some getting used to it is amazing what you can do with it!  One of the apps I a praying to see one day (netflix) can also be streamed for your computer as a bit of a work around to not having the app!  There is a 4.99 price tag for splashtop but in my book it is worth every bit of money!

Overdrive media console

This week while i have been playing and getting to know my blackberry playbook all over again.  I  came across a great app called overdrive media console (this is an Android App that plays on the android player).  I have to say when other tablet and phone users talk about blackberry not having any apps this is the kind of apps they are talking about.  the interface could use a bit of polish but the overall working of the app is solid and freezes a bit less than another android app i have (although i did side load the other app)  if your a reader and like using your tablet or listening to audiobooks then this is the app for you!  You need to have a library card to your local library then you are good to go and will have access to thousands of books and audiobooks.  it is free and I see no reason why you would not want to pick it up in the app world! So I say get off your but get a library card and start reading.

BB OS 2

So after day two of my Blackberry playbook with OS 2 I must say hats off rim!  Great job!  There are so many things i like about what rim has done that I made a list!!
  1. Native Contacts App - Blackberry managed to take all the people you know in your contacts, facebook, twitter, and linkedin and merge them together into one great experience!  as well as adding the friends that have blackberry playbooks automatically to the native video chat app.
  2. Android App Player - While I have only experimented with a few Apps overall the experience has been pleasant.  There are some great apps in Blackberry App World that take advantage of the player including Words with friends, Overdrive, tap talk.  Those are just some of the apps and i am sure there are more out there.
  3. Blackberry Bridge - It was there before the update to 2.0 but now it is supercharged!  Remote control of the playbook from the touch screen Bold 9930 is great.
  4. Folders and Blades added to the homescreen.  I know it is silly but nice to have them.
  5. Podcast app updated!  Now I can add podcasts using an RSS feed!!
  6. Video store! - Finally.  It is about time.  All the other major OS platforms are taking advantage of it
While i do like the update there are still some features that are lacking.  That is not to say rim did not do a whole lot right, just would like to see some further changes to take it to the next level.  First, it needs to be able to sync the contacts and calender from a blackberry phone directly.  Rim has made a good design choice because you can access other calendars that are not associated with you blackberry but i would like to think if you have a playbook then you have a BB phone.  Otherwise nice update!  I did have a glitch on my first install and lost some apps but a quick 20 minute wipe and i was back up and running!  So overall I have to say!!  GO RIM!!

twisted metal on ps 3

so i picked up twisted metal today!  so far it is a great game.  played about five hours.  four offline and one online and i have to say i am enjoying the game a lot.  I am a big fan of the old twisted metal and still have my original ps one copy.  If you enjoyed any other twisted metal game in the past then you should pick up this game.  the single player is a little bit frustrating but it's what games should be.  All these games out there it is about time one challenges you a little bit.  the online play is where the fun really starts though!  oh man i can see i will be playing it for months to come!  Two thumbs up from Dj C reviews and the blackberry nerd!
